Here’s a video, or you can read it below.
Making children’s books is easy and fun, and everyone who does it is rich. It can still be stressful, like if you want something now but have to wait. To take a break from this fast-paced world of above-ground pools and high-end sandwiches, I imagine myself in a Stephanie Graegin book. Her characters have uncomplicated, comfortable friendships, spending the day taking mindful walks, reading, drinking tea, and looking at clouds. All with the slack posture of someone getting ice cream later.
The book Fern and Otto: A Story About Two Best Friends is the perfect example of Stephanie’s unique sensibility, and a great place for me to insert myself without asking permission.
Okay, here I am stopping by Fern and Otto’s place. Looks like Fern’s drawing something and they’re having tea.
Fern is working on a book about our friendship. She probably left me out because I’m hard to draw. I had just been to Costco, so I brought them over some paper towels. I don’t have room for all of them at my place.
Otto is worried the story isn’t exciting enough, and suggests a walk in the woods to look for adventure. We find a cool race between a tortoise and hare, but Otto is not impressed. What more does he want? I’m bummed about leaving my great spot, but I don’t want to make a big deal of it.
Fern finds some little girl with three bowls of porridge for some reason. I dunno, I’m not paying attention.
Anyway, we go inside. The little girl seems super into bears. Otto is trying to be patient, but porridge isn’t his idea of adventure. As for me, I’m content chomping on the gingerbread man I caught outside.
Deep into the woods, we’re surrounded by scenes from classic fairy tales. Fern is fascinated, but Otto is too cool for school. I thought it would be funny to impulsively huck my keys into a bush. It wasn’t.
A wolf and grandma later, we arrive at the most delightful house of candy and gingerbread. Fern and Otto are suspicious and want to leave. More for me, right?
Fern and Otto have left me for dead.
Fern quickly shakes off the loss of her friend, and begins sketching our grand adventure.
I show up just in time for the reading.
The End.
Bob Shapes are back in stock!
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen me draw with my super fun invention, Bob Shapes! They are a drawing system made with a laser. Draw anything with these four shapes that I use extensively in my books. Cheating? Perhaps.
Check ‘em out!
I would like to get my hands on some Bob Shapes!
Here are some YouTube videos that walk you though your favorite animals. Like a zebra on a bike.
SHOW ME THE ZEBRA ON THE BIKE!
Thanks everyone. If you could share this with someone who might get a kick out of it, that would be a huge help to me. Have a great holiday everybody. I’m going to make these once a month, so you get an idea of how much I plan on bothering you.
Your friend Bob.
Oh, if there’s a pledge support thing at the bottom, ignore it, I can’t imagine ever charging for this.
Okay, I love you.
It's possible I could love this more ... highly unlikely because I love it about as much as one could, but it's possible. Perhaps I'd adore it more if I'd thought of it.
This is insane and I love it.
